Rings of metal, woven in to a durable cloth.

Chainmail & Scalemail

When I was younger I saw a shirt of chainmail and it was then I knew I was going to have a set of my own.  Problem was no one I knew how to make it.  Every time I would see a set in a movie or scalemail on display I would try and figure out by looking at it how to make it.

It wasn’t until I joined the army and a girl I worked with told me she knew how to make it and could show me a piece that an ex-boyfriend made her.  After $50 in supplies and tools I was creating my own rings from single strand wire and making swatches of chain.

Since then I have created my own 16 gauge 1/2 inch Galvie Coif, an eight gauge (yes eight gauge) 1/2 inch Aluminum chain shirt.  I’m currently working on a 5/16 12 gauge Aluminum Chain Hauberk.

I went completely crazy and make my own rings using a rig I designed.  (yeah real hard a 2x4 and some nails) Hand cut my own rings and use to be able to weave at work.  The new bosses are complete pricks and won’t let anyone bring anything on the floor now.  Oh well I work on it when I can.

Look in the photos sections later.  I will try and get some Pics of my gear in there later.

Great Site for info on Chainmailing.  Shows you how to actually make those interesting weaves:
